Chapter 7 Bankruptcy

Chapter 7 Bankruptcy is also called Liquidation Bankruptcy.

The purpose of a Chapter 7 Bankruptcy is to eliminate most debts.  There are some debts that are not eliminated by the filing of a Chapter 7 Bankruptcy, including Child Support, Spousal Support, some taxes, fraud, fines and court fees (traffic tickets and criminal fines) and debts incurred for educational purposes (including student loans, but also some other school related costs).

The debts that are dischargeable in Chapter 7 Bankruptcy are much wider.  Most credit cards, medical bills, attorney fees, most lawsuits (as long as the suit is not for one of the non-dischargeable debts), some taxes, cars, house mortgage loans, deficiency balances on mortgages or cars, etc.
